Beyond Beginnings Online!

Saturday through Wednesday
18 – 22 December 2021
10 AM – 12 PM Seattle time [zoom]

[In your own time zone: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com]

Join us! We’re inviting those with at least one week experience in Open Source Forms or Skinner Releasing Technique to join current OSF teacher trainees online for a series of five sessions facilitated by Stephanie Skura and Susanna Hood.

These sessions encompass introductory material regularly offered during the second introductory week of OSF Workshops.

Many have experienced basic OSF & SRT again & again during one-week workshops. This is an opportunity to move on into some of the fascinating territory that exists beyond.

Once again, we offer three payment options: full, online, & out-of-work price. Full price participants, THANK YOU for helping subsidize those who are, sadly, still out of work due to the pandemic .

Deeply rooted in & fluidly expanded from Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT), OSF involves shedding outer layers, accessing primal energy, agility navigating subconscious realms, imagery as potent tool for transformation, & developing a high degree of consciousness without self-consciousness. This work celebrates diversity, collaboration & individual empowerment: free of inhibition, accessing intuition, inviting the mind to collaborate. OSF sessions offer potent tools to access freedom, specificity & courage in movement, vocal practice & creative practice. A key aspect is individual creative empowerment as an instigator of positive change on the planet.

DESCRIPTION:
Dancing reveals the magic of being. We can meet our whole graceful, courageous, messy, formal selves through familiar and unfamiliar ways of moving. Open Source Forms is the burgeoning stepchild of Skinner Releasing Technique that prioritizes non-anatomical language and imagery as a way to access our poetic selves more fully. In this world, we might shift nimbly from lying on the floor to dancing with abandon, letting go of assumptions and tapping into our own innate wisdom.

Sourced from the deep research of Joan Skinner who was influenced directly and indirectly by many people, lineages and histories, I received the work through Stephanie Skura. Laurel Jenkins and Lionel Popkin introduced me to Skinner Releasing Technique.

In this three-morning workshop, Susanna offers introductory level OSF material in combination with improvisation structures using movement, voice, drawing, and writing.  OSF, founded by dance artist and master teacher Stephanie Skura in 2008 is a fluid expansion of Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT), developed as a revolutionary way of learning by Joan Skinner in the 1960’s. Some basic principals underpinning the work are: that we are all born with natural grace and coordination with free and open voices & natural creativity; that in letting go of learned patterns of holding, of preconception, and of expectation we can connect to our own inherent process and potential; that sound is an expression of and release of energy; that learning through allowing instead of forcing gives us access to fullness with less effort; that we can be physically touched and transformed by the use of imagery; that play is a fundamental part of our humanness. (To learn more about OSF and SRT please visit https://opensourceforms.com and http://www.skinnerreleasing.com/aboutsrt.html).

The nature of the working process is web-like, cumulative and will happen in layers with no two days exactly the same. This is why the sessions are best experienced in their entirety. We will work with touch, deep-state imagery, and waking-state exercises and scores for improvisation. The sessions are guided mostly through experiential learning, allowing for the timing of each individual’s process of discovery and integration, working both together and alone but in community.

The class is open to adults of all ages, performers and non-performers alike. The class will cater to the average level of its participants’ previous experience with OSF/SRT.
